Tony Nicholson

Tony Nicholson is a Senior Associate based in Dentons' Dubai office, practicing in the Banking and Finance group, specializing in Banking and Finance Law. He has more than 10 years of global experience representing borrowers, sponsors, commercial lenders, DFIs, and ECAs on all aspects of the development and financing of large‑scale projects across renewables, water, and LNG sectors.

Tony has extensive experience advising on the project financing of major infrastructure projects in the Middle East. Notable matters include advising senior lenders on the Al Wakra & Al Wukair Sewage Treatment Plant in Qatar, five construction villages in NEOM, Saudi Arabia, and Jubail 3A IWP in Saudi Arabia (Middle East Water Deal of the Year, PFI Awards 2020 and MENA Water Deal of the Year, IJ Global 2020). He also advised the Kuwaiti and German consortium on the Umm Al Hayman wastewater project in Kuwait (Middle East PPP Deal of the Year, PFI Awards 2020) and ACWA Power on the US$1.2 billion Taweelah IWP in Abu Dhabi, the world's largest RO desalination plant (Middle East Project Finance Deal of the Year, IFLR 2020). He also advises on corporate, real estate, asset and acquisition financing, cross‑border M&A, and restructuring matters.

Tony holds an LL.B, a B.Com in International Business, and a B.A. in Japanese from Auckland University (2006, 2009), where he received the Senior Prize in Japanese. He is qualified as a Solicitor in New Zealand (2010) and as a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales (2015).
