Nathaniel Armstrong

Nathaniel Armstrong is the Office Managing Partner of Dentons' Abu Dhabi office and a member of the Banking and Finance team, specializing in Banking and Finance Law. He has more than 15 years' experience advising on all types of debt finance transactions, both conventional and Islamic, representing a range of domestic and international financial and corporate institutions.

Nathaniel is a specialist in general corporate, asset (shipping and aviation), real estate, and Islamic finance under both English and UAE law (including free zones such as the ADGM and DIFC). Notable matters include advising Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank on an AED710 million real estate financing of Phase 1 of the Jubail Island development; advising National Bank of Bahrain on an English law governed secured financing for McLaren Group; advising on an English law financing for the delivery of five new Airbus aircraft; advising on a US$370 million Islamic Istisn'a financing for the purchase of five very large gas carriers (VLGCs); and advising on an AED750 million multi-tranche loan and Islamic facility involving the construction of a mixed residential and hotel development—winning Real Estate Finance Deal of the Year at the Bonds, Loans & Sukuk Awards Middle East 2017. He also advised on the restructuring of a US$180 million financing for a UAE‑based international shipping group and on a US$166 million syndicated lease financing for Tristar.

He holds a B.A. (Hons) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University (2005), a Graduate Diploma in Law from Oxford Brookes University (2006), and completed his Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, London (2007). He qualified as a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales in 2010.
