Mahmoud El Tantawy

Mahmoud El Tantawy is a Senior Associate at Al Tamimi & Company, based in Dubai International Financial Centre, focusing on Commercial Litigation. He is a qualified attorney-at-law and handles litigation matters in particular banking, commercial, real estate and intellectual property disputes.

His work comprises conducting legal research, drafting writs of lawsuits, cease and desist letters, notification and warning letters, memorandums of defence, writs of appeals and cassation, and all other litigation documents in different types of courts. He has represented major banks in various cases before the courts.

Mahmoud has wide experience handling lawsuits relating to private and retail banking disputes; investment banking and structured finance disputes; trade finance disputes (including letters of credit, performance bonds, guarantees and bills of exchange); margin lending; recovery; asset finance; foreclosure cases (including other enforcement cases); disputes related to the title of a property; sale and purchase transactions; rent arrears delays; commercial and residential use of the property; and trademarks and copyright infringement claims.

Prior to joining Al Tamimi, he worked for a leading law firm in Cairo since 2011 as a general litigator.

His recent experience includes representing Mashreqbank in a claim worth AED 473 million against a joint venture of a mega project in Abu Dhabi; representing Mashreqbank in a claim worth AED 266 million against a top-tier real estate developer in Sharjah and its guarantors, successfully securing a favourable final decision for the bank; securing a decision from Abu Dhabi court for the possession of receivables pledged in favour of Mashreqbank against a banking facility of AED 473 million; acting for an investment bank in a complex margin lending litigation before Abu Dhabi courts and successfully securing a favourable final decision; and acting for a multinational bank in various litigation cases for the recovery of outstanding debts against banking facilities before Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah courts.

He holds an LLB from the College of Law (English Section), Ain Shams University (2010). He was admitted to the Egyptian Bar Association in 2011 and to the Legal Affairs Department of the Government of Dubai in 2019. He speaks English and Arabic.
