Edward Imrie

Edward Imrie is an Associate in the intellectual property group and an England and Wales qualified solicitor. His primary practice area is Intellectual Property Law, covering both contentious and non-contentious matters, with a particular focus on commercial transactions in the UAE and the Middle East across all sectors.

His practice involves drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of IP-related documents, including licensing and assignment agreements, franchise agreements, distribution and supply agreements, and IP policies. He regularly assists clients on mergers and acquisitions, from managing the due diligence process to negotiating IP warranties in transaction documents, advising on the disclosure process and ensuring post-completion obligations are completed.

On the advisory side, he has experience in intra-company group restructurings, brand protection strategies, IP enforcement, anti-counterfeiting activities, and trademark, copyright, trade name and domain name issues. He has also advised pharmaceutical companies on life sciences and healthcare regulatory compliance and has worked on patent litigation in the pharmaceutical and telecommunications sectors.

His recent experience includes managing multiple trademark applications and oppositions for a multinational FMCG company, assisting an international e-commerce business in an acquisition in the Middle East, assisting with the acquisition of a private educational institution in the UAE, advising a Chinese automobile company on entry-to-market IP queries, and assisting a UAE government entity with contract negotiations in the healthcare industry.

He holds a PGDip in IP Law and Practice from the University of Oxford (2022), a Legal Practice Course from BPP University (2019), a Graduate Diploma in Law from BPP University (2014) and an MChem in Chemistry from the University of Oxford (2013). He was admitted to the Senior Courts of England and Wales in 2021 and speaks English.
