Payel Mazumdar

Payel Mazumdar is an Associate in the firm's Arbitration and Mediation practice, based in the United Arab Emirates. She specializes in cross-border commercial arbitration, investment treaty arbitration, and public international law, acting as counsel under ICSID, PCA, SIAC, LCIA, HKIAC, ICC, and UNCITRAL rules across jurisdictions including England, UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Paris. Her practice spans defence, oil and gas, energy, banking and finance, infrastructure, and engineering sectors.

Ms. Mazumdar has acted for clients in proceedings before the DIFC, ADGM, Singapore Courts, Indian Courts, and the European Court of Human Rights. She has worked as legal advisor to BRIC Nations, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and the Governments of Fiji, Honduras, and Somalia on arbitration matters and legislative drafting. Her practice also focuses on the setting aside and enforcement of foreign and domestic awards in the UAE, India, and England, and she advises on complex issues of UAE law including good faith, unjust enrichment, damages, and public policy.

She holds an LLM in Litigation and Dispute Resolution from University College London (2016), a BA and LLB from Symbiosis Law School, Pune, India (2015), and completed the GDL at BPP (2022). She is a member of the Bar Council of India (2018) and is a Registered Legal Consultant with the Dubai Legal Affairs Department (2023).

She has taught international dispute settlement and investment law at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, won the ROAP EMEA Construction Arbitration Advocacy conducted by Delos, and is a Delos Advocacy Ambassador. She publishes regularly on arbitration, commercial law, and infrastructure matters.
