Lawyer Profile

Melody Huang is an Associate in Al Tamimi & Company's Insurance practice, based in Dubai. Her primary practice area is Insurance Law, and she has over 10 years' experience advising insurers, reinsurers, brokers and corporate policyholders on complex insurance disputes and regulatory matters across the Middle East and Australasia.

Her practice spans both contentious and non-contentious insurance work, with particular expertise in coverage disputes and claims resolution across a broad range of insurance products, including professional indemnity, directors' and officers' liability, medical malpractice, general liability and property insurance. She also advises on market entry, licensing and regulatory compliance for insurance market participants operating across the GCC.

She previously worked in-house for an international insurer before joining private practice, a commercial background that enables her to provide practical, business-focused advice to clients navigating complex claims and evolving regulatory frameworks.

Her recent experience includes advising on insurance coverage issues such as policy interpretation, liability assessment, indemnity, subrogation and recovery strategies across commercial and marine-related claims. She has advised GCC clients on insurance program adequacy, including property all-risk, sabotage and terrorism, and war risk policies, and advised a large retail group on COVID-19 business interruption claims in the Middle East. She has also provided coverage advice to a KSA-based insurer following a fire at one of the largest shopping malls in KSA, advised UAE luxury car dealerships on indemnity disputes after a significant adverse weather event in Dubai, and advised the UAE regulators on resolution powers in line with the Financial Stability Board's Key Attributes and other international standards.

She holds an LLB and a BCom from the University of Auckland, New Zealand (2012), and a BCom (Honours) in Finance from the University of Auckland (2013). She was admitted as a Barrister & Solicitor in New Zealand in 2014 and as a Solicitor in New South Wales, Australia in 2017. She speaks English and Chinese.
