Lawyer Profile

Mehreen Sattar is an Associate and a European Patent Attorney at Al Tamimi & Company, based in Dubai International Financial Centre, focusing on Patent Law. She specialises in providing tailored, high-quality intellectual property (IP) advice and services to clients across the MENA region.

With extensive experience in IP strategy development, she has worked across various sectors, managing multi-jurisdictional patent portfolios for large corporations while also supporting SMEs, universities and start-ups in identifying and protecting their inventions. Her strategic approach ensures that clients’ innovations are safeguarded, aligning IP protection with current commercial goals and long-term business growth.

Mehreen’s expertise covers drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications, as well as handling post-grant opposition and appeal proceedings before Patent Offices. She also advises on contentious IP matters, including due diligence, patent validity, infringement and freedom-to-operate assessments, as well as IP licensing and assignments.

Before joining the 3IP team in Dubai, she gained valuable experience in both private practice and in-house at a multinational FMCG company in the UK.

Her recent experience includes managing the expansion of a multi-jurisdictional patent portfolio for a leading technology company across key markets in the MENA region; providing strategic patent advice for an FMCG product launch; collaborating with a leading UAE university to assess research outcomes, develop a tailored patent strategy and facilitate technology transfer through licensing agreements; representing a client in post-grant opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO), securing a favourable outcome that upheld the patent’s validity; conducting a comprehensive freedom-to-operate analysis for a pharmaceutical company; and assisting a client in negotiating a complex IP licensing agreement.

She holds a PGCert in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary University of London (2020) and an MSci in Chemistry from the University of Bristol (2018). She was admitted as a European Patent Attorney in 2022 and as a representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC) in 2024. She speaks English, Urdu and Hindi.
