Selman Ansari

Selman Ansari is a Partner at Dentons in Dubai, specializing in Competition Law and regulatory and public policy. He advises corporates, government departments, state‑owned enterprises, and private equity investors on merger control, competition law issues (including abuse of dominance and distribution/vertical agreements), data protection, cybersecurity, and AI regulation.

Selman has particular experience in bringing international solutions to merger control, antitrust, data protection, and AI regulatory issues in the Middle Eastern context. He has advised on some of the largest and most complex merger control filings in the region and regularly represents clients before competition authorities. He has a deep understanding of data and cybersecurity regulation and is expert in the emerging AI regulatory landscape across the Middle East, with particular expertise in data protection, cybersecurity, and data localisation issues arising from the provision of financial services. He relocated from London to the Middle East in 2018 and was previously at a magic circle firm in the region and, prior to that, a partner in a leading public law firm in London.

He holds a B.A. in History from the London School of Economics, a Postgraduate Diploma in Competition Law from King's College, University of London, and completed the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law.
