Mohamed ElBaghdady

Mohamed ElBaghdady is a Partner and Head of the Tax and Financial Crimes Department at Habib Al Mulla and Partners, based in the United Arab Emirates. His practice focuses on Tax Law, with nearly 15 years of experience in dispute resolution, tax controversy and regulatory strategy.

He advises multinational corporations, regional groups and high-net-worth individuals on tax implementation, structuring, VAT, excise, and disputes and enforcement matters. Mohamed is a former public prosecutor specialising in financial crimes and taxation.

He is known for his strategic oversight of complex tax disputes, guiding clients through audits, administrative appeals and litigation, and leading the preparation of high-stakes legal strategies and defence before UAE courts and tax dispute resolution bodies.

He has worked closely with key regulators on drafting and interpreting key legislation and has played a leading role in several precedent-setting controversies before high courts. Mohamed also advises on parallel criminal and tax proceedings, providing clients with integrated strategies to mitigate risk and ensure compliance.

He is ranked by Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500 for his work in tax and contentious matters, and is a regular speaker and contributor to legal panels, publications and regulatory training initiatives across the MENA region.

He holds an LLB from the Faculty of Law, Cairo University (2011) and an LLM from Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Indiana University (2013). He was admitted to the Egyptian Bar in 1992 and is a Registered Legal Consultant in Dubai.
